Founded in 1972 by Johns Hopkins University graduates Matthew Polk, Sandy Gross, and George Klopfer, Polk Audio began with a mission to deliver accurate, lifelike sound at an accessible price. Operating from a modest 18th-century mansion in Baltimore, affectionately dubbed "The Addams Family house," the trio combined innovative engineering with a passion for music to create high-performance speakers that resonated with both audiophiles and casual listeners.
Polk's breakthrough came with the release of the Monitor 7 in 1974, a speaker that offered balanced sound and robust bass, setting a new standard in the industry. Over the years, Polk continued to innovate, introducing technologies like the Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) to enhance stereo imaging and expanding into automotive and outdoor audio solutions.
Today, as part of the Sound United family, Polk Audio remains committed to its founding principles, offering a wide range of products—from home theater systems to portable speakers—that combine quality, performance, and value.
